Donald Hering

Age 98 of Bayport, died on Friday, February 07, 2014 at Golden Living Center Greeley in Stillwater surrounded by his family. Donald was born February 18, 1915 in Bayport, Minnesota, the son of William and Carrie (Berger) Hering Sr. He grew up in the Bayport area and graduated in 1934 from Stillwater High School. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the military he returned home where he began working for a local electrical contractor and attended Dunwoody to acquire his electrician license. He owned Linner Electric Company in Stillwater many years and retired in 1982. Don was united in marriage on June 28, 1947 to Jean Allenson at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, Minnesota. Jean died on June 14, 1989. Don was a member of the Bayport American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and the Stillwater Country Club. He enjoyed spending his summers at his Sand Lake cabin near Stone Lake, Wisconsin and his winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Don is survived by his children, Gwen (Marlin) McCurdy of Scandia, John (Lucinda) Hering of Bayport, Sue Richie of Marine on St. Croix, and Kathryn (Steve) Powell of Roberts, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) McCurdy, Michael McCurdy, Eric (Amy) Hering , Mark (Erica) Hering, Suzanne (Seth) Donnohue, Kelly Richie, Matt Richie, Jeanne Richie, Megan Powell and David (Morna) Powell; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Nolan and Mason McCurdy, Francesca, Landon, Briggs and Lauren Hering, Emerson and Liam Donnohue. Don is also survived by many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents; granddaughter, Sarah; sister, Norma Young; and brother, William Hering Jr.
A Celebration of Dons Life will be at 4PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Croixdale chapel, 750 Hwy 95 N. in Bayport with Reverend Bruce Ruggles officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior. Age 81, of Marine on St. Croix

Dale was born on February 23, 1932, and grew up on a farm near Steamboat Rock, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Pauline Stull, and his brother, Leo. He graduated from Iowa State University and worked as an engineer for 30 years at 3M Company. He married Janice A. Paulson on November 16, 1951. Dale is survived by his wife, Janice; daughters, Deborah (Paul) Stull Kinsley and Susan (Ellis) Stull Carr; grandchildren, Krista (Tim) Meier, Jennifer (Luke) Carlson, Daniel (Krista) Erickson, and Alexander Aderman; great-grandchildren, Haddon, Schaeffer and Casper Carlson, and Riley and Jaxson Meier; sister, Arlene Hahn; and several nieces and nephews.

In retirement, Dale continued as a consultant to several businesses. He loved family gatherings and was active in the church, the Marine community, Mayhem and church breakfast groups, the St. Croix River Association, and the Scandia-Marine Lions Club. Among his favorite memories were times on the farm, being on the river, planting trees, bird watching, and traveling to special places like Holland and Switzerland.

Dale died on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. The visitation was held on Thursday, February 6, at the Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in Stillwater, MN, and the Memorial Service was held on Friday, February 7, at Christ Lutheran Church in Marine on St. Croix, MN.

The future bride received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin River Falls. She taught English in South Korea for three years. She is currently enrolled at St. Cloud State University for her Master of Arts degree.
The future groom graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is currently employed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
The wedding is currently planned for Summer 2015.

Age 44, passed away unexpectedly after surgery on February 5, 2014. Heather graduated from Los Alamos High School in NM. She attended the University of New Mexico, Pima Medical Institute and the University of Maryland University College where she earned her degree while she lived abroad. Heather was adventurous. She joined the Naval Reserves, moved to Japan, and lived in England before moving to San Antonio, TX. Heather was born on October 20, 1969 in St. Paul, MN. She was a current resident of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Gloria McMaster of Bosque, NM; her husband, Scott Ingerman of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; her sister, Holly OGrady and her husband, Mathew, and their three children, Kevin, Caitlin and Liam of Albuquerque, NM; her brothers, Mark McMaster of Bosque, NM, his daughter Victoria of Albuquerque, NM, and Jason McMaster of San Diego, CA. A wake and Rosary was held on February 14, 2014 and burial services took place in Boerne, TX on February 15, 2014. Memorial services were held at the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) in Bosque, NM on February 22, 2014. Passed away peacefully on February 22, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving wife and children after a joyful and adventuresome life. Wayne was preceded in death by his precious daughters, Amy and Emily, and seven of his beloved brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Berene Beske; son Mark (Diana); daughter Carolyn (Kathleen Connelly); grandsons Adam and Judd (Jessica); great-grandaughters Chloe and Quinn; brother Curtis (Marian); sister Ruth (Paul) Stormo; former wife Helen Sampson; his adored family by marriage to Berene – Scott Beske, Sandy (Lenny) Snellman, Barb (Bill) Degner, Sally (Terry) Chial, their twelve children and four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends, including the Monday Guys and his very special fishing buddies.
Wayne served in the U.S. Air Force before attending Augsburg College and graduating from the University of Minnesota School of Business. His career as a financial executive included many fascinating and rewarding years with Electric Machinery, Turbodyne, UOP Johnson Div., and Focus Homes, where he formed close and lasting relationships with colleagues and acquaintances from all walks of life and from all around the globe. Wayne was a leader in the Minnesota business community and a proud member of the Board of Directors of Communication Systems Inc. and Hector Communications. He was a member of the University of Minnesota Presidents Club, Financial Executives Institute, Shriners Masonic Temple, and Rotary Club.
Wayne loved to hunt, fish, sail, golf, play cards, ski, garden, barbecue, read and travel. Above all, he loved to visit and swap stories and experiences. He will be missed by many.
Service were held Tuesday, February 25, 11 A.M at BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH, 490 N. 4TH ST., Bayport. Burial Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, February 24, 5-8 P.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER (NW corner of Hwy 36 & Cty Rd 5), Stillwater. KarinEJonesColorKarin Elizabeth (Winter) Jones, age 45, from Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014 after a battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  She was predeceased by her brother, David Winter.  She is survived by her husband of nearly 19 years, Dave, and daughter, Adia, parents Dr. Robert and Jane Winter, sisters Cathy Winter (Gerry Dehkes), and Dr. Sarah Winter Boyer (Mike Boyer), brother Andrew Winter (Emily Winter), and sister-in-law Terry Winter.  She was adored by her many nieces and nephews—Olivia, Abby, Peter, Kirsten, Sarah, Erik, Alec, Lucas, Dena, Evan, Caleb and Noel.

Karin graduated from Henry Sibley High School, West St. Paul and the University of Minnesota.  She worked in various medical and insurance positions, most recently at Student Assurance Services, Stillwater.

Karin’s love was her family, especially her daughter.  She enjoyed her dogs, long walks, time with her friends and cherished summertime at the family cabin in northern Wisconsin.  Her culinary skills were widely appreciated by her large family and friends.  She will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love her.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m. Both will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater, 6201 Osgood Avenue North, Stillwater, MN.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made toward further education for Adia (Adia Jones donation trust at Wells Fargo Bank) or to the University of Minnesota Foundation (Dr. Bruce Peterson’s Lymphoma Research Fund, Med292 Q12636).

Passed away suddenly on February 26, 2014. Melissa was a remarkable young woman who never let physical challenges limit her life. She laughed easily and loved deeply. She liked hanging out with family and friends, and was always up for a hot game of Skip-Bo. She took real pride in her work at Stillwater Medical Group and cherished the relationships she formed there. Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents Ollie & Bev Myhra and Al & Lois Iverson; mother-in-law Kathe Norlander. Survived by husband Eric; parents Tim & Kris Myhra; sister Liz (Chris) Sisk; father-in-law Dick (Pam) Norlander; sister-in-law Greta Norlander; aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. John Thomas Buckley died peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. He was born on August 6, 1927 in Stillwater to Leo & Mary Hazel (Greeder) Buckley. He was a WW II Army Veteran and was a retired Sprinkler Fitter Local 417 with Grinnell. John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barb who died on May 14, 2013 sisters, Kay Wiess, Rilla Smyth, Barbara Charlsen, Elaine Murphy, Betty Clevanger, Joan Kelly; brother Stanley Buckley. He is survived by his children, Jeanne (Greg) Swanson, Stanley Buckley, John (Karen) Buckley, Kathy (Glenn) Helland, Joseph (Mary) Buckley; sister, Pat Ehlinger. 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Marjorie Adeline Monson, age 79, of Stillwater, MN, died Thursday March 6, 2014 at the Lutheran Home in River Falls, WI after battling Alzheimers Disease.

Marjorie was born on October 13, 1934 in St. Paul, MN; the daughter of Herbert and Esther (Okeberg) Johnson. She attended Farnsworth and Cleveland elementary schools prior to graduating from Johnson High School in St. Paul. She furthered her schooling at the University of Minnesota, where she received her degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten for two years (1957-1959) at the Washington Elementary School in the White Bear Lake school system, seven years (1959-1967) at Sheridan Elementary, and one year (1968-1969) at Mounds Park Elementary in the St. Paul Public School System.

On July 1, 1967, she was united in marriage to Earl William Monson. This union would be blessed with two daughters, Melissa and Stephanie.

Marj enjoyed getting dressed up and eating at nice restaurants, attending church service, and family get togethers. She was able to enjoy and play the piano and organ, teach Sunday school, growing and arranging flowers, decorating her home with accessories, and grooming herself and her daughters.

Marjs family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers at Comforts of Home in Hudson, WI and The Lutheran Home in River Falls, WI.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Earl; daughters, Melissa (Michael) Fitzgerald of Stillwater, MN, and Stephanie (Christopher) Belak of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren: Mia and Erin Fitzgerald, and Marko and Maxwell Belak. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service for Marjorie will be 11AM Tuesday March 18th at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 505 13th Street So., Hudson with Pastor Brian Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning. Burial will be in the Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylor Falls, MN. Pallbearers will be: friends, Donald Sederstrom, Timothy Bredahl, and Victor Thalacker, along with cousins sons John Jordan, James Jordan, Brian Sabo, and Warren Pakulski

Graduated from Bethel College and University of Minnesota (Ph.D. in Zoology). Professor of Zoology (Bethel), Professor of Genetics and Acting Director of the Dight Institute for Human Genetics (University of Minnesota). Research in genetics of breast cancer and epilepsy. President of Sigma Xi, American Scientific Affiliation, Behavior Genetics Association, and Institute for Advanced Christian Studies. Volunteered with United Way, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, church and community. Authored books and articles concerning science and religion. Age 88 of Stillwater died Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She was born June 7, 1925, the daughter of Alfred “Oscar” and Esther (Nelson) Turnblad. She grew up in Scandia and graduated from Forest Lake High School. She was united in marriage to Cletus Simonet on February 8, 1947 at the Church of St. Charles in Bayport. The couple made their home in Stillwater where they owned and operated Simonet Bottle Gas Company. After raising their five children, Mildred went into nursing as a medical assistant where she worked at both Pine Point and Croixdale. After her retirement she took care of Cletus for years until his death in 1997.  She loved embroidery, gardening, tending to her houseplants, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mildred is survived by her children; Caroline (David) Williams, Loretta (Curtis Teague) Simonet, Maureen (Steve) Stenseth, Carmen (Don Howard) Simonet, Dean (friend Christine and Sasha); grandchildren Dana (Suzanne) Williams, Jeffrey (Frances) Williams, Timothy Williams, Paul and Robert Stenseth, Alex and Tony Howard; great grandson Sebastian Williams; brother Vincent (Gretchen) Turnblad. Kristine Josephine Bardin (nee Salmore), age 62, passed away peacefully at her home in La Jolla, CA on February 7, 2014 with her family at her side after an 11 month courageous and valiant fight with cancer. She was born September 12, 1951 in Stillwater, MN and was a 1969 graduate of Stillwater High School. She was preceded in death by her parents Raphael and Margaret Salmore of Stillwater and sister Kathleen Salmore. Kristine was a talented portrait photographer in San Diego and an avid tennis player. She loved gardening, cooking, skiing, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her loving, caring and vivacious spirit.

Kristine is survived by her devoted husband Richard Bardin of La Jolla, CA, her sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Gordon Kircher of St. Croix Beach, her brother and sister-in-law Dan and Rochelle Salmore of Colorado Springs, her sister and brother-in-law Vicki and David Anderson of Oakdale, MN, her stepson James and Susan Bardin of Los Angeles CA, her stepdaughter Christa and Brad Tallman of San Jose CA, six grandchildren and many exceptional friends. Kristine is also survived by her extended and much loved family including niece Angela Heart and children Ethan, Johanna and William of St. Croix Beach MN, niece Michelle Koehler and Derrick Lance of Edina MN and children Alexis, Aliyah and Anthony, and nephew Chad and Anna Koehler of Rosemount, MN and children Ada, Wesley, Mina and Abram, aunts Adeline Otte, Vivian Guse and Ruth Guse all of Stillwater, and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on February 25, 2014 in La Jolla CA. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 28, 2014 in Stillwater, Minnesota and burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery in Bayport, MN.

Faithful servant of the Lord, devoted to his family and friends. Age 84, of Stillwater. Passed away peacefully on March 15, following a lifetime of blessings. Born Dec. 14, 1929 in Rockford, IL. He had a wonderful 39-year career at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, serving as Vice Pres. for Financial Affairs when he retired in 1992. His personal passion for Swedish activities and involvement in the community led to many dedicated roles of leadership. His Lutheran faith was at the heart of all he did. Glen delighted in history, writing, genealogy, world travel, fishing and stamp collecting. Preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Verona Brolander of Rockford, IL. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine, son Randall (Donna), daughter Sheryl (David Johnson), grandchildren Yvonne, Hanna, Tryg, Lars & Britta and great-grandchildren Ethan and Logan. Special thanks to the kind and loving staff at Boutwells Landing and Lakeview Hospital. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 22nd at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH in Stillwater. Visitation & prayer service were held Friday, March 21st at THE SWANSON CHAPEL AT BOUTWELLS in Stillwater. Interment Scandinavian Cemetery, Rockford, IL. Memorials may be directed to Augustana College-Rock Island, IL, Swedish Council of America, Trinity Lutheran Church, Stillwater or designation of choice.

Robert Lohman

Robert Wade Lohman, age 90 of Charleston and formerly of New Ulm and Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 while at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham. There will be a Private Family Graveside Service honoring and celebrating his life at the Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater, Minnesota.
Bob was born on March 18, 1923 in Stillwater, Minnesota to the late Wade and Edna (Patrick) Carmichael. At an early age he was adopted by Ray Lohman, the gentleman he knew as his father. He married Ann McKusick on August 7, 1944 in Stillwater and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2000 following 56 years of marriage. They were blessed with seven children, David Robert Lohman and Pat of Forest City, Iowa, Marianne Patricia Snowden and Dr. Thomas of Charleston, Gary Alan Lohman and Diane of LaQuinta, California, Jeffrey Michael Lohman and Faye of Indian Wells, California, Guy Sherman Lohman and Jane of Danbury, Wisconsin, Christopher Ray Lohman and Tari of Country Club, Missouri, Tod Alexander Lohman and Deb of New Ulm, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Peterson of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Julie Lohman of Tucson, Arizona. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Lohman and two sisters, Margaret Corboy and Virginia Glennon.
Bob was a United States Navy Veteran who faithfully served his country during World War II aboard the USS Tillman. He and Ann made their home in New Ulm, Minnesota where Bob was employed for 26 years by Herbergers Department Store as a manager and buyer, and served on its Board of Directors for three years. He was active in the Episcopal Church and served as both Junior and Senior Warden.
New Ulm was a community to which he was extremely devoted and generously gave of his time and talents. He was an active member of the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, serving 2 terms as President of the Retail Division and 2 terms as Vice President of its Board of Directors. He was President of the New Ulm Business District and devoted 9 years as Chairman of the Retail Parking Committee. He enjoyed a16 year tenure on the Board of Directors of the New Ulm Foundation (3 years as Director) and sat on the Advisory Board of the Lorretto Hospital for 10 years and serving on its Finance Committee. The community benefited from his membership and time served as President of the New Ulm Lions Club as well as his contribution as District Advancement chairman for the Boy Scouts where he also served as needed for Eagle Scout reviews. New Ulm is the site for several festivals throughout the year and Bob graciously co-chaired the Polka Days Festival drawing thousands of visitors to the community.
Following retirement Bob spent his time in Tucson, Arizona where he enjoyed golfing; playing cards and bingo; building dollhouses; and volunteering as the resident handyman in the retirement village where he lived. It was obvious that Bob enjoyed helping others and was an extremely social individual. He never knew a stranger and could converse with anyone. He will be dearly missed by his family who treasure many fond memories of special times shared.
